Chatham-Kent Council will be sending a letter to the OLG in support of keeping slot machines in Chatham-Kent.
Chatham Counc. Doug Sulman entered a successful motion, stating the $700,000 they receive annually is essential for the community.
North Kent Counc. Joe Faas brought up the point to ensure the Slots remained specifically in Dresden, however it was decided the location of any private facility would not be up to Council.
We caught up with Mayor Randy Hope to discuss the issue, watch for that story.

Can’t wait until they close down another out of Chatham business and move it to the GREAT CENTER of CK! Wonder where it will be located, Grand or Keil??? So many decision, maybe in the downtown Chatham Centre next to the new townhouse complex, and just down the street from the Capitol!
Shame, shame!

Lets looked at the operation of the Casino in CK. The municipality gets 5% of the profit and who gets the other 95%???? it goes to Queens Park to dole it out however they want.Perhaps to pay for the Toronto subway system or to pay provincial debt. Casinos just suck the disposable income and life out of our local economy. Without casinos CK would have more disposable income and be much better off. I normally agree with Doug Sulman he dropped the ball on this one.

If the slots where to stay in Drtesden under a somewhat similar contract as what presently exists the Liberal Gov’t won’t be able to sell it to American interest which is there plan! Lets smarten up people and see what all this is about. It certainly isn’t about Chatham/Kent or Dresden but why sell it to the Americans who have a favourite slogan now. BUY AMERICAN, BUILT AMERICAN AND SCREW CANADA
BUT LETS SELL ALL OUR REVENUE GENERATING ASSETTS.

Location, Location, Location, just like any other business. Would Walmart build a store at Dresden Racetrack?

Sure they would and when all other business’ in the area go out of business, then they would close up and move to Chatham.

Sad to say the least . . . . slots just a tax on the poor and uneducated.
What a way to raise revenue!

Let’s remember the horse industry has received $3.7 billion since the slots program was announced. Yes, most of the revenue goes to the Province so the question became, do we send more billions to horses, or put those same billions towards home care, cancer care, schools, etc.
With a $15 billion deficit, the decision was easy.
Of course all decisions have an impact, but government can’t govern by polls.
