Layoffs could be coming to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
Shirley Roebuck, chair of the Chatham-Kent Health Coalition says 10 beds will be axed from the complex-continuing care unit of the Sydenham Campus in Wallaceburg, resulting in an unspecified number of job losses.
She added the point of care devices will be launched immediately at the Sydenham ER, resulting in the layoff of all lab staff in Wallaceburg.
Roebuck also says 7-10 medicine bed will be closed at the Chatham campus.
Roebuck says more chances and cuts are coming as well.
In a memo obtained by our newsroom, Health Alliance CEO Colin Patey says $5 million in cuts needs to occur, in order to balance their budget and accommodate to the changing healthcare system in Ontario.
We have spoke with Health Alliance officials and will be providing more information later today.

Cutting jobs in Wallaceburg to balance Chatham-Kent’s budget? Before amalgamation,Wallaceburg had new beds, wheel chairs and were $500,000.00 on the black. Chatham-Kent was nice enough to take all of that and the thanks we get is they are bound and determine to close Wallaceburg. Not even a kiss? Thanks!

The Start of the FALLING of our Health Care System.
The Life Span of people in Ontario will start to decline.
I see an Increase in Cancer and Heart Conditions in Chatham Kent, and this is not the solution. Soon all will have to go SOME WHERE ELSE, to recieve proper medical procedures. Start saying GOOD BYE to the Specialist in our area.

Kristen, are you certain your statement is accurate? I know they are cutting at all levels. I suggest that instead of public getting into an epic Chatham vs Sydenham battle, take this to the people who count, the funders such as the Local Health Integrated Networks. Are they experiencing the same budget cuts as the Health Care leaders in the area? They seem to have all sorts of funding for all their consultant reports, and their administrative staffing. Put some of that money back into the system.

Always interesting to see which of the CKHA hospitals take the brunt of these cuts. So, with a 16.7% interest in the CKHA it is proposed that Sydenham District Hospital lose 10 complex-continuing care beds. As for the loss of 7-10 medicine beds in Chatham– those beds taken from SDH and moved to Chatham two years ago. Death by 1,000 cuts – it’s really sad to watch. Time for the SDH board to have a back-bone.

I wonder if the CEO and anyone else that gets very high pay would take pay cuts I am guessing not or cut everyones pay and keep the jobs and beds but of course this does not happen because we have greedy people working. Very sad what happens especially to a hospital where we need beds.

Everyone who has been in that hospital knows the RPN’s are overworked already; some fantastic front line staff, but don’t have time to give excellent customer service. Move some of those nurses to other floors and cut out a majority of managers.
The savings are in the fat, sorry. It’s True. I wish the board would see this. Of course managers aren’t going to recommend there own cuts; the board has to push this…..

How about they quit spending money on wasteful things like a magazine to tell us how great the services are! And quit hiring high paying admin. jobs that have assistants to the assistants! Waste waste waste!
We need services not cuts, in the private sector cuts affect every level in some way whether in a bonus structure or pay or vacation, but in the public sector it only seems to be at the service level! Enough is enough!
