In order to continue the great work The Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board has been doing, the Board is hiring a new Research Coordinator to work with the Project Manager and the Strategic Leadership team to implement the strategies in Workforce 2020: Cultivating Tomorrow’s Workforce Today. The new staff member is part of the funding the Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board has been able to secure from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities

“Now that the strategy is completed the real work comes” commented Keri Banar, Project Manager for the Planning Board. The Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board is now forging ahead with the implementation of the strategies. The strategic leadership team that was assembled for the strategy development phase has broken into six teams. Each team has a champion or convener and a team made up of local community stakeholders, both from private and public sector. The project will be on-going for the next twelve months.

“Jobs and the economy are our highest priority. The Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board is a local leader in our strategy to identify the training and education that will prepare people for jobs that ensure future prosperity,” said Glen Murray, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.
Some of the strategies include the development of an entrepreneurial mindset in the community and promoting career opportunities to Chatham-Kent’s current and future workforce. Increasing Chatham-Kent’s ability to develop and disseminate Labour Market Information (LMI) is another key activity the Board will be engaging in over the next 12 months. For a detailed description of the projects visit the Planning Board’s website at www.ckworkforcedev.com.

As a result of the addition of a new staff person, the Planning Board has moved to a new location in the Chatham Chamber of Commerce offices. The board’s office is now located at 54 Fourth St., Suite 4, Chatham and the new phone is 519-352-7540 Ext. 43.

The Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board is a committee of local community leaders developing a workforce development strategy that recognizes the unique needs of the community.

Here we go again hiring more people and adding more costs.
It must be nice to live in a fantasy world where you just
do what you want and increase taxes.
Council is clearly out of touch with reality!

Just wanted to reply to your comment. As mentioned, this position is funding fully by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. It is not coming from the Municipal budget at all. The position is a great opportunity to expand the role of the Workforce Planning Board in this community. I encourage you to check out the CK Workforce Planning Board’s website to see some of the great projects that are being done. If you have any further comments or questions, please do not hesistate to contact me.

This position is funded provincially, I believe. The Workforce Planning Board is not connected to council, although it works in conjunction with Municipal staff. How is this out of control spending?
The reality is that we need to promote the creation of jobs and a climate of progressive thinking in our community. This Board, made up of local business people seems to be one part of the puzzle.

Obviously the previous posters think the funding for these positions is grown on trees and has nothing to do with CK. Did you ever think the province keeps track of the money funded to CK? Next project we request Provincial funding for, these grants will be considered.

These types of provincially funded (and Chatham-Kent focused) workforce planning activities were being completed out of Windsor only a few years ago. Now, we have local people engaging collaboratively with our communities on a strategy for a prosperous future. I’d rather see my provincial tax dollar being used directly in my community to benefit my community. Provincial funding is being direct to where there is a need and this is good news.

People complain that there are no jobs in CK and when one comes up they complain that there are jobs available. Go figure.

Probably the only community anywhere that bitterly complains about being awarded senior government funding that enhance local efforts.

When the government funds a job for cK it is for a certain period of time. When the time runs out cK does not release the employee. That employee goes on permanent employ and wages are then paid for by the taxpayer. There are several employees on the staff of cK that were taken into employment under the same circumstances.

” employee goes on permanent ”

Your point is well taken. However we do have a habit of dismissing any project that’s new or represents a shift in thinking.

As a community we need to embrace change.
