The John D. Bradley Convention Centre is off to a slow start.
Council was told last night that the centre is facing a $175,000 deficit in its first quarter and a projected $100,000 deficit in the second quarter.
A late start, after only being completed in December, limited carry-over business from the Wheels Inn, and a lack of experienced sales staff were all cited as reasons for the growing pains.

The 10M could have went a lot further. Told you so.

I would not expect anything else from this council. They seem to have the excuses used for the Capitol Theatre in their hip pockets.

I am shocked, seriously shocked! Can’t believe that administration didn’t see this coming. Actually I rememebr sitting in Council when it was going to be approved and they did indicate a loss for the first few years so really no surprise and they did say it would happen!
Big thing will be how many years will this be a loss and how long will the tax payers fund it! I believe Kinsmen Hall ran at a deficit for many years as well.
Good job Council! Least you called it!

The reported deficit did not include the interest on a $8 Million dollar loan as would be expected. The troubles with the Con center are just in it’s infancy. Recently they purchased a additional 50 parking spaces for over $1/2 million which gives them 421 spaces for a 1000 seat building. People who rent booths for shows require space for trucks and trailers. If any of the property is sold they count on as parking, they must either purchase it or be seriously short of parking space.

First year deficit not all that unusual. Public or private.

Reality Check, your apathetic comment about deficit/debt is why CK is on the same course of Spain and Greece. If no one cares about investing well, how can we improve our position?
Whatever?

I really hope parking is an issue!
