Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a formal announcement in Windsor this afternoon, confirming the construction of a new bridge that will connect Windsor and Detroit.
The $1-billion bridge will stretch over the Detroit River to help the flow of traffic between Canada and the United States.
Canada will be financing the entire construction, but it is set to recover the cost for Michigan through state tolls.
The new bridge will be constructed a few kilometres south of the existing Ambassador Bridge.
Construction for the link is expected to last four years, creating approximately 12, 000 construction jobs and 8,000 permanent jobs in southeast Michigan once the bridge is ready for traffic.
