As chapter President of the Chatham Heart & Stroke Foundation, I am committed to affecting change in our community. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” Lao Tzu. If we can get our citizens taking that first step we can change the health and lifestyle of our city. That first step will begin with me. I invite the citizens of Chatham to take that first step with me. To that, I wish to announce a new run is happening in Chatham-Kent, the Maple City Mile.

“We are looking forward to introducing or re-introducing running to Chatham-Kent.” says Robbins

The Maple City Mile is a two part initiative.

Part A: Consist of a 9 week walk and or run clinic. The walk and run clinic will be a supervised Saturday group activity coupled with a peer workouts. Our hope is that the participants will gain Education on walking and or running and the benefits of living an active lifestyle and Empowerment to continue to walk and or run with confidents. We are pleased to announce that our clinics will be hosted by GoodLife fitness downtown Chatham. Participants do not have to be a Goodlife member to participate. Registration dates for the clinics: June 18, 20, 27, 28, 2012.

“We have a talented group of volunteers that are passionate instructors to help with the clinic and to get participants road ready.” says Rob Tobin

Part B: Consist of the Maple City Mile run. For many this will be the “celebration run”, celebrating all of their hard work over the 9 weeks of training. For others, that are already runners, it will be new run in the Maple City.

“We are excited to be launching such an engaging program with a fantastic goal race, here in Chatham-Kent. This is designed for all, from the inactive to the marathon runners” remarks Doug Robbins.

Maple City Mile and the clinics that precede it are upcoming fast and we need the support of civic minded individuals and companies. This Family Friendly Event will take place on September 03, 2012. I would like to invite you to be a sponsor and or participant to show your support. Kinsmen Arena will be our starting and finishing point on race day and Goodlife fitness will host our summer clinics starting July 07 2012.
