The Ontario Fire Marshal is currently at Deer Run Golf Course on Bloomfield Road near Pardoville where a fire ravaged the clubhouse earlier this morning.

The Assistant Fire Chief for the Chatham-Kent Fire Department, Rick Scharf, says the first arriving person on the scene was a police officer.

“When he got there, the back of the clubhouse was on fire,” said Scharf, “Fairly violently on fire, so he made sure we were aware of that, but we’re not sure why it started and that’s why we are investigating.

Scharf was also able to confirm earlier reports that the clubhouse was the only building damaged in the blaze.

“The fire didn’t disrupt the golf course itself,” said Scharf, “There is a large shed with a whole bunch of golf carts in it that isn’t that far from the clubhouse, so luckily that didn’t catch fire.”

But it could be a while before the Fire Marshal discovers the cause of the destructive blaze.

“He just got there at 1 o’clock, so he’s going to end up spending the rest of this day on it,” said Scharf, “We’ll know probably by tonight or tomorrow.”

The damages were previously estimated at $750, 000, but that number could climb as the damages are further investigated.

im glad nobody was hurt as fire is always so terrible to hear about especialy in buildings with people in them such as apartments. i couldnt sleep unless i had fire insurance and fire extinguishers and a quick way out.. id rather break a leg than burn to death.. i remember the burning building i ran into years ago to get people out.. especially since disabled residents have no way to just run or jump free.. fire scares the crap out of me and hopefully they find the cause and prevent it from happening ever again..
