On June 9, 2012 Elmo’s Express, a team registered in Chatham’s Relay For Life, will be holding a bottle drive to support the upcoming event on June 15, 2012. The bottle drive will be held at Blazin’ BBQ located at 425 St Clair Street in Chatham from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Elmo’s Express was originally formed in 2003 after a family member, Jeff Stead, was diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma. “As a family, we knew we had to do something to help in the fight against cancer,” states team captain Melissa Purdy. Although Jeff passed away later that year at the age of 33, Elmo’s Express hasn’t lost sight of its goal to help eradicate cancer. Their new motivation comes with the most recent lost of another family member, Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer Ron Stead in December.
We encourage everyone to join in the fight against cancer on June 9, 2012 by bringing empty liquor and beer bottles to Blazin’ BBQ in Chatham. A designated truck will be there to collect the donations. All proceeds will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.
