A rally at Queen’s Park is expected to start this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
Brian Tropea, general manager of the Ontario Harness Horse Association says they are expecting a great turn-out.
“We’ll be there on the front lawn,” he said. “We’re expecting upwards to 500 people. Earlier this morning we held a press conference… a number of MPPs were there showing their support.”
Tropea said he wasn’t impressed with the comments made recently by Finance Minister, Dwight Duncan.
“As far as I’m concerned Dwight Duncan deliberately used the word subsidy to get people’s opinion formed that somehow the tax payers of Ontario were giving money to the horse racing industry,” he said. “Unless people have made a conscious decision to go a race track to either gamble on horse racing or put money in the slot machines, they haven’t contributed one cent to the horse industry.”
