This past weekend in Dearborn Michigan, Chatham’s PURE Academy competed against 26 of the top dance schools from Michigan, Ohio and Ontario.
PURE’s Mini Team (5 to 8 years of age) took home 1st place overall as well as “BEST IN SHOW” for their number “Rescue Me” performed by Larissa Bedford, Avery Kosik, Lauren Pittuck, Carsen Rhodes, Zachary Stallaert and Lakyn Willmore. “Rescue Me” was also awarded the overall Mini Technique award that recognizes exceptional technique and training in the age division.
With this accomplishment PURE has qualified for the Adrenaline National Competition in Las Vegas Nevada in July of 2012.
Competitive dance instructor Jenna Charron won the overall choreography award for her efforts choreographing the 2nd place overall Mini number “Marry You” performed by Larissa Bedford, Gabrielle Czichrak, Lauren Garrow, Avery Kosik, Kaylee Melnyk, Kinsey Moon, Lauren Pittuck, Sofia Prizio, Carsen Rhodes, Zachary Stallaert, Maddux Swayze, Emily Verkaik and Lakyn Willmore. “All of our teams did so well this weekend and I think that the choreography award really reflects the hard work from all of the coaches and dancers at PURE who are so dedicated” said Jenna Charron – PURE’s competitive coach.
PURE’s Junior Team captured 1st place in the large group category for their number “I Like That” performed by Clair Boughner, Brooke Comiskey, Cassie Comiskey, Abbey Gorlick, Emily Gorlick, Grace Hodgson, Avery Hughson, Sydney-Grace James, Grace Newell, Emma Pinsonneault, Hannah Ross, Chloe Stallaert, Olivia Stallaert, Kathryn Szymanski and Hunter Willmore and choreographed by PURE’s competitive coach Melissa Coleman.
PURE also won 1st place overall in the Production category for their Lyrical number “Carpe Diem” choreographed by Coach Holly Holmes, Melissa Colman and Corey Mariuz and performed by Erin Boyle, Julia Drakulovic, Dakota Hodgson, Sarah Houle, Shelby Hughson, Jocelyn Jones, Riley Kitchen, Heather Kosik, Hannah Nicholls, Emma Pinsonneault, Alison Pittuck, Heather Ross, Jocelyn Smit, Savanna Stallaert, Sophie Turner along with all members of the Junior Team.
The Overall Junior Entertainment award for the weekend was awarded to PURE for their complicated production number “Egyptian Tale” that includes 44 dancers, several large props and very unique costumes.
6 of PURE’s dancers won regional scholarships and were recognized for their talents over the weekend. Carter Pittuck won a scholarship in the Mini Age Group, Grace Newell, Brooke Comiskey and Gracie Hodgson won a scholarship in the Junior Age division while Micah Enzlin and Hunter Willmore won a scholarship in the Teen division. Grace Hodgson was also selected to the Junior all-star Hip Hop Team.
PURE owner Candice Willmore commented on the weekend, “I am very happy for all of the dancers, their families and for all of the coaches who work so hard to bring some very complicated numbers to competition.”
PURE’s next action will see them traveling to Chicago in early March to compete at the L.A. Dance Magic convention and competition.
