Health care is the hot topic this morning (Feb. 2) in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance President and CEO Colin Patey, along with Wayne Schnabel, Tri-Board executive committee chair stopped in Wallaceburg this morning, to discuss this weeks announcement of the CKHA recommending a $551 upgrade the facilities in the community.

Both Patey and Schnabel went LIVE on the air at the 99.1 CKXS studios to discuss the announcement.

Watch for a recap from the interview later today on the CKDP.

Good questions Greg ,we’ll see if what they were saying comes true.Lots of skeptisim here from historical past .Since we have been amalgomated in this health alliance Wallaceburg Hospital has had to defend themselves .

    Hi Robert/CKDP readers.

I read these pages ofter, but don’t respond. I think it’s not my part as “part of the Media” to add our comments, but if you don’t mind, I’d like to take part.

I’m sure that all Wallaceburg/Dresden residents are hesitant in jumping forward with both feet with this project.

A couple things I learned today:
    - Colin has done 4 different Hospital builds in the past
    - We are being promised 24/7/365 Emergency service.

That he (Colin)has some experience here, I thought was key, and that he said on air 3 times that we are getting Emergency Services was big. (to me)

Now, do I think that we should have looked at a renovation first? Yes. Colin seemed very clear that this building could not do a reno. He seemed confident in that response. That would be my only issue with what was said today. I don’t know that for sure.

What do I think about it all? If we have to raise 13Mil, wewwwww. That’s a lot of money. I want 24/7/365 emergency service to be there if we have to raise that money.

    Will I help. Yes.

Both Wayne and Colin I thought today were very fothright with their answers. I respect them both for that.

      Thanks for all this information.

It is not surprising that someone who has built four hospitals would concentrate on another build – as opposed to a refit. But a standing building is the greenest building and there are many buildings which have been creatively adapted – and the advantage of the current Wallaceburg building is that is was always meant to be what it is – a hospital.

I wonder what would happen if the word was – “we want to upgrade the current building to incorporate modern technology – perhaps with an addition – you (the architect) have $6.5 million – what can you do with that?”

I guess you do know Greg that half of every dollar you pay in taxes goes to service interest on debt. Currently the government spends more than it takes in, and expected to continue until past 2022…Where does the difference come from? Foreign countries lend us money…..Greg just a hunch Colin lives in la la land. The Finance Minister just announced today…..that there are two options for health care as it stands – Increase taxes or create a two tier system…just a suggestion…this guy dream will be squashed sooner rather than later….

I had a chance last night to listen to this interview; I have to say I was extremely devastated to listen to the comments. There are a couple of reasons why.

    • They hire for $100’s of thousands “Director of Communications & Community Relations” never heard from her in this announcement. It would appear she is specialized, in this and should provide comment.
    • Mr Patey made a comment about once being complete it would be state of the art – and will be good for many years to come…. well the same is said when I go to future shop and Purchase a brand new Ipad, within a 6 months a new Ipad comes out, and the technology is defunct. It is no different than Health care today it s technology based. So making an asinine statement that we are good to go for years 30 to 40 years in daft.
I was wondering if it was just me, we need someone to run the hospital’s not spend there time engaged in expanding buildings and drawings, work on fantasy schemes spending other people money.

Here is Mr. Patey employment contract, when the hospitals

I may be way of base but is this what we need, Facebook websites? Video Blogs? You Tube Blogs?Virtual Internet Tours? Health Wellbeing Magazines?

I am just a basic guy, with basic medical needs – when I need emergency I hope to get it, All I want to know is my tax dollars being used to fix patch me up and go. When you are a private hospital and have competition, then you can make magzines, facebook crap – until then you are tax servants so just do your job -come downstairs from your glamerous office and do something.
