A Chatham man was arrested yesterday in connection with an incident at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance – Sydenham Campus in Wallaceburg.

At about 9:45 p.m. a man entered the hospital to seek treatment for a pre-existing injury.

While waiting to be seen by hospital staff, he became upset and threatened to plant a bomb in the hospital and blow up the waiting room with everyone inside.

A 49-year-old Chatham man has been charged with uttering threats and faces a future court date.

The average E.R. wait time in Ontario is 11 hrs. Obviously this poor fellow doesn’t find that acceptable; nor do I. Do you?

Not sure where your numbers come from but the average length of stay for CKHA Emerg, I understand, is about 3.5 hours. That would mean that some wait 20 minutes and some probably wait 11 hours, but I doubt that there’s an 11 hour average wait time.

Here’s the facts for the two commentors discussing wait time.
Ontario ER average wait time in complex conditions is 5.2 hours, minor or uncomplicated conditions is 2.2 hours. These are for the waiting room. Average time total spent in emerge (includes being treated) for those complex conidtions is in fact 11.2 hours, close to what was claimed, and 4.3 hours for minor conditions.

In Chatham-Kent, those times are equal or below provincial level in all (although none equaling the 3.5 stated). The actual figures stated respectively to those above are 4.7, 2.1, 8.4, and 4.3 hours.

Still incredibly long, but below provincial average. Wallaceburg is even lower at 3.6, 2.6, 6.7, and 4.5.

Check it out, nice easy website to avoid petty arguing, no doubt, no questions http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/waittimes/

I have never used the Chatham Campus, but I have used Sydenham. The day I thought I had a stroke my feet barely touched the ground it was so quick. The day I tried to cut my fingers off I was about half an hour.

Length of stay is a completely different matter and a whole lot different to wait time. Length of stay could be many hours depending on what tests they think are necessary, and what specialists may be required.

Those people who are always complaining about our health care system must be really unlucky, because I find our health care system very efficient, and the staff very professional.

I had one very long stay once in Chatham, but it was in day surgery, and the reason was that the surgeon had an emergency. I find that completely acceptable.

The wait times at Syendham are not nearly as long as they are at Chatham. If an ambulance came in while he was there then they would look after that first. Some people just only think of themselves and not the greater picture. Nurses do a good job and the physcians do as well.
