The inaugural Wallaceburg Relay for Life event wrapped up this morning (June 25), and organizers are thrilled with the turn out.

Renee Marchand said the total amount raised for the Wallaceburg event was $44,650.

“It really takes my breath away,” Marchand said of the support of the Wallaceburg community, and of the success of the first ever Relay event for Wallaceburg. “I’m really eagerly anticipating next years event.”

Marchand added that next year’s event is already set for June 22, 2012.

Rachel MacLeod, of the local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society, said she was happy with the Wallaceburg turn-out as well.

“This brings the overall total for our community, including the Chatham and Blenheim events, to over $400,000 raised,” she said. “It’s phenomenal.”
