PURE Dance Academy competes in Niagara

This past weekend in Niagara Falls Ontario, PURE Academy’s 7 dance teams competed against 13 other Ontario Dance Schools at the Bedazzled Dance Champions competition.

In the competitive division PURE Academy impressed the judges and picked up 10 diamond ratings and 8 special recognition awards.

PURE’s Mini competitive team won 1st place over all in the Mini division for their number “That’s Not My Name” choreographed by the Toronto Raptors Dance Star Charlene Wong. That’s Not My Name picked up a diamond rating with an overall score of 93.5% as well as the Judges Choice award in the Mini Division. “ I was so impressed with the dancers this weekend – to do so well at such a young age is impressive. They danced like little superstars!”, said Charlene Wong.

PURE’s performance of “Jerk-It” won 1st place overall in the large group category as well as a Judges choice award. PURE’s junior trio “Up on the Roof” finished 2nd overall in the Duet Trio category.

Head Coach and Choreographer Raewyn Maheu was thrilled with the teams performance “I am so proud of the teams, they work so hard all year and they performed brilliantly again this weekend.”

Brittany Meechum, Dance Pak teams performed extremely well in the precompetitive and novice divisions picking up 5 diamond scores and 2 overall 1st place divisional awards. Micah and Josh Enzlin’s number entitled “Bothers” won 1st place overall in the duet/trio category and was given a diamond rating and 2 special recognition awards.

“Boom Boom Shake the Room” picked up 1st place honours in the small group division scoring a diamond rating as well. Brittany Meechum’s showstopper “Ma Ma Mia” also scored a diamond rating and won 2nd place overall in the competition in the large production number category.

PURE’s next performances will be held at the Capitol Theatre on June 10th and June 11th for their year-end PURE Academy Recitals.
