CN Rail has informed the Municipality of Chatham-Kent that it will be replacing ties along its rail corridor from Chatham to Mount Brydges starting Tuesday April 5 and working until Wednesday April 13 (7AM April 14). Due to the amount of daytime traffic on the line, the work will be conducted between 10PM and 7AM. The CN corridor runs through Chatham, Thamesville and Bothwell, and through the intervening rural areas.
“CN has assured me that they will be as quiet as possible,” said Mayor Randy Hope, “but the work has to be done. The consolation is that they move very quickly and the disturbance in any one place shouldn’t last more than one night. The railways are important to our local and national economies, and I would like to ask citizens in advance for their patience.”
A second session of work will be needed to renovate the second railway track in the CN corridor. That work is scheduled for the period of April 19-25.

I wonder if this means that they are finally, FINALLY going to fix the ridiculously bumpy crossings across the municipality that have been neglected for far too many years!!???

I wonder if this will result in faster running times to London. We could use train speeds befitting developed country status.

I have seen people fly from Detroit to Florida cheaper than they can take the train from Chatham to Toronto.
It is more than ties and crossings that need fixing.
