In a big announcement for the community, A Relay For Life event is taking place in Wallaceburg, for the very first time.

The event is set to start at Wallaceburg District Secondary School on June 24th.

Rachel MacLeod of the local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society said the 12-hour-long event runs from 7 p.m. on the 24th, until 7 a.m. on the 25th.

“We’re going to have a night for everyone,” MacLeod said. “Throughout the night you really get to participate in a lot of different things. There is something for everyone… an emotion for everyone.”

Renee Marchand, event chair, said the all-night event is coming to Wallaceburg for the very first time.

“We will be showing cancer that we are not going to back down,” Marchand said.

Chatham-Kent Energy is the event sponsor.

Teams are being sought for the event, and people can sign up at the Relay For Life website.
