The CK Movember Finale organizing committee announced today details of the Movember ‘Shave Off and Grow the Mo’ event.

The Shave Off and Grow the Mo is a critical component in the build up to the Movember Finale, being held at the Chatham Armoury on November 26th at 5:30pm. Movember is a word blend of Moustache and November, and is a movement that started in Australia in 2003 in an attempt to use the moustache as a vehicle to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer with the goal of improving men’s health.

The CK Movember Finale is being lead by the Kent Havoc Rugby Football Club and the organizing committee includes: Sandra Hanley (Family Service Kent), Dr. Jason Denys, John Lyons (Bulldog Design) and Laverne Hanley (Kent Havoc).

Dr. Denys introduces the Shave Off event: “Brian Machado has offered us the Chatham Breakfast House (CBH) for this inaugural shave off. The first of its kind in Chatham-Kent, the purpose of the shave off to the Movember Finale is to start the month of November clean shaven. The event will take place between 9am and 11am on November 1st at the CBH. After that, we have 26 days of growth and nurturing of the mo’ until our Finale on November 26th where we all get together to show off the ‘stache’s that we have grown, have a lot of fun in wacky moustache related costumes and try to raise a bit of money for Prostate Cancer Canada.”

Sandra Hanley provides a bit more detail on the Shave Off: “Lisa Maynard and Sharon Cartier of ‘A New You Premier Day Spa’ salon services, have graciously stepped up and have donated their time to be our official Movember shavers on November 1st. Additionally, if the person receiving the shave brings in their ticket to the Movember Finale, they will get a FREE breakfast or lunch (value up to $20) from the Chatham Breakfast House. This is an even better incentive to buy your Movember Finale ticket now through www.cktickets.com or the Cultural Centre now and bring it with you to the Shave Off.” When asked who will be getting shaved, Hanley responded “I think you will be surprised at our line up for the shave off, but we are keeping it a bit of secret of who they are”.

Adding his perspective on both the shave off and the Movember Finale, John Lyons adds: “Whether you have some kind of facial hair now like a goatee, beard or moustache I ask that you consider shaving it off on November 1st in support of the Movember movement. Your clean shaven look will get immediate attention from your family, co-workers and friends and you will have to explain why you shaved. It is at that time that the core purpose of Movember is realized which focuses on making the moustache the ribbon of men’s health. I invite all women & men in Chatham-Kent to attend the Shave Off and actively participate in supporting our efforts to raise awareness of prostate cancer by attending our CK Movember Finale.”

The Movember ‘Shave Off and Grow the Mo’ will be held at the Chatham Breakfast Grille on November 1st, from 9am to 11am and is free for all to attend and open to the public.

The Movember Finale is on November 26th, at the Chatham Armoury beginning at 5:30pm. The theme for the 2010 finale is ‘Save a Bro, Grow a Mo’. Tickets are $50 each and are only available through www.cktickets.com or the Chatham Cultural Centre box office. Attire is either a themed costume related to Movember or semi-formal.

The CK Movember Finale has been setup on the Movember website to allow for people to make a pledge to the team and receive an income tax receipt from Prostate Cancer Canada http://ca.movember.com/donate/your-details/team_id/84560/
