Beating the deadline by two days Anne Gilbert has filed nomination papers for the upcoming Municipal Election. She will again seek a seat on Council for Ward 6, Chatham, a position she has held for the previous two terms.

During the current term of Council she has served on the Library Board, the Chatham BIA, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Senior Advisory Committee, Heritage CK and the Senior Supportive Housing Advisory Committee. She was invited to serve on the provincial Municipal Performance Measurement Program Working Group for Museums.

She has just completed a seven year term as Chair of Chatham-Kent Community Futures Development Board which partnered in developing the Municipal Cultural Master Plan. Anne chaired the Steering Committee for the Cultural Plan and served on Create CK which implements recommendations from the plan. The plan’s intent is to use Chatham-Kent’s cultural assets to enhance economic development and quality of life for the community.

Anne’s goal for the next term is to work to insure the suggested outcomes of the Library Masterplan, the Cultural Masterplan, Parks and Recreation Masterplan, the Trails Masterplan and other plans are not ignored by Council or Administration. “We have done our homework. This municipality is prepared for the future in which we will build on the quality of life we currently enjoy. Progressive thinking needs to continue.”

While watching the COGECO coverage of Ward 6 Council Candidates, something said by Anne Gilbert really caught my attention.

Ms. Gilbert speaks of the Ward 6 Councillors as needing to be the visionary people on council, “we in Chatham, the leaders in Ward 6 will be the leaders on council..”

I was just wondering how a view like this would lend itself to consensus building with other members of Council who are not from Ward 6.?

She also says she is sick of (hearing) “my ward, my ward, my ward..”, but then says about our amalgamated structure “lots of places in the province that are looking at us and saying we should have done that”. Well, that amalgamated structure includes more than one Ward and many issues that are not Chatham only issues that also need to be debated and voted on by all Councillors seated at the table from all wards and the Mayor. So “my ward, my ward, my ward” will continue to be said and that is just the way it is.

There is lots more she says and it is now posted on the COGECO website here:
