RetroFest 2010 packs downtown Chatham, see photos

Thousands of people packed downtown Chatham on Saturday (May 22) for the 8th annual RetroFest Classic Car Show.

Along with the approximate 400 classic and vintage vehicles on display, their was a myriad of vendors, displays and activities for Chatham-Kent residents and visitors to enjoy.

Bob Fox, executive chair of the Chatham BIA, told the Chatham-Kent Daily Post that the event got started off right on Friday (May 21) with over 400 cars in the parade.

“I think it was the greatest number of cars we’ve ever had in a parade… it was just an outstanding drive-by here, and outstanding support from the community,” Fox said.

Fox added that the great turn-out from Friday, carried over into Saturday as well (reports indicate 3,500 people checked out the event.)

“This morning it was on the edge of rain… but Noon hour and beyond, the spectators that are walking through here, the participants has just multiplied,” he said. “There is a wonderful response here from this community.”

RetroFest 2010 continues into Sunday as well. Here are some details:

RM Classic Car Exhibit 9 a.m – 5pm. Come out to Hwy 40 and 401 and enjoy 2 for 1 admission. View automotive history with one of North America’s finest collection of classic cars.

Duke’s Harley-Davidson (next door to RM Classic cars) is holding its Annual RetroFest Party starting at 11 a.m. and running until 6 p.m.) Live entertainment, cook out, beer tent, custom bike show, kid’s face painting and many more activities.
