Friday and Saturday held an exciting event for local dance students in Chatham-Kent. Terpsichore, a North American touring dance competition, held their Small Studio Tour at UCC the Pines, inviting studios with less than 40 entries to join in and compete for top prizes. Twelve studios from all across Ontario – as far away as Sault Ste. Marie – signed up, and local dance school All That Jazz brought approximately 120 dancers including competitive and recreational teams, adult competitive dancers and B-Boys.
All That Jazz Dance Co. did an amazing job with their 8 dance teams bringing home a total of 41 awards including 8 Superior Awards (score of 91-93.9), 18 High Excellence Awards (89-90.9) and 15 Excellence Awards (87-88.9). Four judges choice awards were also given to ATJ for their mini and junior dance team tap numbers choreographed by Lisa Lester-Harris and Karlee Cockburn’s solo choreographed by Chris Rich. Madison Hetherington also won 2nd overall high score for her solo “Whip It” choreographed by Chris Rich. ATJ’s teen competitive team received an overall high score for their hip hop number “Imma Be” and Emily Kennedy won the choreographer’s award for her contemporary number “Joker and the Thief” which also received an overall high score and scholarship.
