Tilbury Family Health Team adds two new practitioners

By CKDP Staff

The Tilbury Family Health Team (TDFHT) in just three short years has met and exceeded the original goal of providing health care services to 10,400 patients.

Originally the plan for TDFHT was to provide services to approximately 10,000 patients through the care of an interdisciplinary team that would include four family physicians, nurse practitioners and other valued health care practitioners.

Today the family health team will provide health care to approximately 14,000 patients from our community, through the efforts of six dedicated family physicians, nurse practitioners and allied health professionals.

The family health team is pleased to welcome Dr. Juta, and Dr. Thakersee, and is looking forward to providing services to their patients.

“The addition of these two practitioners will provide an added opportunity to increase access to urgent appointments at the family health team, thereby reducing the stress on the local emergency rooms, and assisting the family health team to meet our vision of care” said Kristen Williams, Executive Director.

The Board of Directors of the Tilbury District Family Health team are very pleased that Dr. Juta and Dr.Thakersee will be joining our team of health care providers. We are excited that so many more residents of Tilbury and surrounding communities will be able to access the kind of health care that we provide.

Katie Taylor, Board Chair added: “I am sure that their patients will be pleased.”

Dr. Juta and Dr. Thakersee look forward to the new partnership, stating “this is an exciting time for us, our staff, and all our wonderful patients”.

They further acknowledged the benefit of working in a multidisciplinary team with a common goal of providing the best primary care to the patients.

This family health team might be adding these 2 practioners in their building….but its not like they are new doctors atracted to the area….i’m pretty sure they were already practicing here….so its not such a huge gain….and since this health team claims to have exceeded its goal in quantity, perhaps they can now start to focus on QUALITY!! I have heard many stories about how ridiculously bad the service is there.

While I would have to agree that the doctors relocated there might not seem like a big gain I must disagree about the quality of the service. Any increase of doctors in Tilbury is a welcome addition as we have been under serviced for many years. These additional doctors will help reduce the work load of the doctors already there to provide more timely accessable health care. As far as quality I think they have gone through some very dramatic changes since opening and any problems are minor considering the challenges in opening and operating this facility. I think all the people who work there from the receptionists and nurses to the doctors and directors deserve alot of credit.

i might agree with u about reducing the current doctors’ workload if the article did not say they plan to take on 4000 more patients…so it really looks like there won’t be much reduction in that workload. And from several people I know that go there, I am told they must wait MONTHS just to schedule a non-emergency appointment. And one person has been waiting almost 2 years for surgery with excuses from the doctors “blame it on the system”!! I’m all for Tilbury being better serviced, but if the quality is not there then one might as well be without a doctor anyway. And I do realise it is not necessarily the fault of the people working at the TDFHT, but rather the govt and LHINS. Respectfully

Wow I think we must be talking about a different Health Centre. When I my family or the people I know go to make any appointment we get in very soon, often the same day with no delay. As for surgery that is a different matter and the specialist are often behind schedule as bookings can take quite a while.
