The Chatham-Kent Police is investigating the attempted theft of a backhoe in Wheatley.

Chatham-Kent police said on Tuesday, the owner of the backhoe left it on a property south of the Wheatley Arena.

When he returned yesterday, the backhoe had been moved approximately 50 metres from its original location and was stuck in a ditch.

The evidence suggests that someone attempted to steal it until it got stuck, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Matt Stezycki at 519-436-6600 ext. 87128.

Anonymous tips can be made to Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
