Chatham-Kent Schools in Bloom participants recognized, see photos

November’s unseasonably warm weather has been perfect for planting the Ivory Silk Lilac trees that Chatham-Kent Schools in Bloom participants received in recognition of their excellent efforts.

The top five schools in the 2008/2009 competition have already been rewarded with gift certificates to even further enhance their school properties.

As Top Bloomin’ School in the local contest, Good Shepherd Catholic School in Thamesville, received a $250 gift certificate generously donated by Kentwood Gardens in Dresden.

St. Joseph Catholic School, Tilbury, exceptional 2nd place entry was applauded with a $250 gift certificate, compliments of the Keil Drive Home Hardware Building Centre, Chatham. Ecole St. Francis, also in Tilbury was 3rd, receiving $150 from IVCO Tree Farms Nursery and Garden Centre, Tilbury. Wallaceburg’s H.W.Burgess Public School and Dresden’s Lambton-Kent Composite School tied for 4th, receiving $100 compliments of All Seasons Nursery and Flowers in Wallaceburg and Sherry’s Perennials of Cedar Springs, respectively.

All Chatham-Kent elementary and secondary schools are invited to enter annually. The local competition encourages and creates more vibrant school communities and environments and rewards everyone for their participation. Entries are judged on their fulfillment of 5 criteria: Clean up & Tidiness Effort, Environmental Awareness, Student & Community Involvement, Schoolyard Greening & Gardening, and Curriculum Integration of Outdoor Spaces.

2010 applications are available at www.chatham-kent.ca. Start collecting information and pictures today and having your school’s 2010 entry ready by the May 1, 2010 deadline will be made easy.
