The nominations are now in for the 2009 Mayor’s Heritage Preservation Awards and the selection is one of the finest that we’ve had to date. Thirteen properties have been nominated from communities all across Chatham-Kent including Tilbury, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Ridgetown, Bothwell, Chatham, Palmyra, and Thamesville.
The nominees include an interesting cross section of properties that include a humble but beautiful circa 1900 home, an early country church, commercial buildings, Victorian estates, and handmade garden furniture while the best practice work ranges from major restorations of heritage features to re-painting in period colours.
The nominees are now available for viewing on the Chatham-Kent website along with descriptions of the work undertaken on these properties. Back by popular demand is the on-line voting for the “Peoples’ Choice” award for your personal favourite nominee.
Last year, more than 300 people participated in selecting the “Peoples’ Choice” winner so don’t miss out! On line voting will continue until December 31, 2009. Award winners will be announced in February (Heritage Month), 2010.
Watch for more information on the nominees at a later date on the CKDP.
