Cardinals at LKCS are keeping up their hard work as we approach mid-semester. Some sports teams are finishing for the year, as others complete playoffs, and new teams are getting ready to start. The boy’s volleyball season is now over and the girl’s basketball is on fire as they enter playoffs. The clubs here at LKCS have been busy with new projects, fun events, and field trips. Student Council is keeping the spirit, by holding the fifth spirit day this year. The theme is “ugly sweater day”.

We have held a “school colors day”, “a pink day” in support of Breast Cancer, a “winter wear day”, and a “Halloween costume day”. On Friday the Nov. 6 LKCS had an “ugly sweater day”! Students wore their very ugliest sweaters, and we still cannot figure out why on earth some were ever made. Perhaps they were a fashion statement that was cool or hip at one time, like the mullet!

The boy’s hockey team has been busy fundraising for their future tournament; they set up a table outside the lecture theatre to sell delicious pizza for only two dollars after school. So grab a slice on your way out, and help support the school’s hockey team!

The boy’s volleyball season has just finished; the boys played an awesome season. The senior boy’s team won seven games this year. The final game the boys played was Monday Nov. 2 in Ridgetown. Everyone on the team worked hard and made our school proud. Good job boys!

Girls Basketball will be finishing up soon, they played an important game on Nov. 5 and lost by just two points. They will play their semi finals next Tuesday night but the location has not been determined at the time of writing this article. So make sure to come out and support the senior girls!

Cardinal athletes are reminded to sell their tickets for the spaghetti dinner that will be held on the 17th of this month. We hope people will come and participate in this yummy fundraiser; you can purchase tickets from students, or at the door. This fundraising event is to support varsity sports at LKCS.

LKCS is holding a parent information night about post-secondary planning for senior students going to an apprenticeship, college, or university. This will take place on Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. in the LKCS lecture theatre. All grade eleven and twelve students and parents are welcome to attend!

Multiple sclerosis is a complex disease that is most diagnosed in young adults ages 15-40. This disease impacts the family, friends and the community, and there is no cure. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is holding a Walk of Hope to fundraise and support research a cure for the crippling disease. If you’re interested in walking for a cure, contact Nicole White for more information.

On Remembrance Day all students will participate in a brief assembly and then walk to the cenotaph to pay respects to those who have served for our freedom by observing the community Remembrance Day ceremony.

The first Accommodation Review Committee meeting will take place at LKCS on November 16, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. This meeting is open for the public to attend.

The literacy tip for the week; Look for opportunities for purposeful writing at home and encourage your son/daughter to read and write letters, lists, messages, postcards, thank-you notes, etc.
