Chatham-Kent Police have been experiencing a higher than normal rate of home break in’s.

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers officials said the rural areas have been the targets of these thieves. The area hardest hit appear to be in the Eastern end of Chatham-Kent, Howard, Orford, Zone, Camden and Harwich Township areas.

“These thieves prefer houses as there targets and mostly during day time hours, they are forcing doors and breaking windows to gain entry,” Crime Stoppers officials said. “It appears they are focusing on electronic equipment and cash. They are using a truck or van of some sort to move these items.”

If you see an unfamiliar vehicle travelling in your area that appears suspicious or at a neighbours home that shouldn’t be there call the police.

Crime Stoppers is looking for some tips on who is responsible for these crimes. You will remain anonymous and you never have to go to court.
