After only one season in Port Lambton, the Pirates Senior baseball team have one league championship under their belts.

The Port Lambton Pirates won a “thriller” on Monday evening (Aug. 31) in Wyoming, winning the deciding Game 3 of the Western Counties Senior Baseball League championship 1-0 over the Barons.

Pirates starter Paul Bezaire pitched a complete game three hitter to earn the win.

First baseman Craig Bezaire scored on a single by Pirates third baseman Jamie Donahue with two outs in the top of the first inning, after the ball was bobbled in the outfield.

That run proved to be enough, as the Pirates defeated Wyoming, marking the first loss of the season for their ace starter Ryan Nutma.

The Pirates will now travel to London this upcoming weekend for the Ontario Baseball Association Senior ‘D’ provincial tournament.

The Pirates play at 8 p.m. on Friday evening and 10 a.m. on Saturday morning in the double elimination tourney.

More than 20 teams from across Ontario will be taking part in the tourney.
