More than 350 people flocked to the Two Creeks Conservation Area in Wheatley on Sunday, August 2 for the 6th annual Wheatley Idol singing competition.

Organizer Darla Janzen told the Chatham-Kent Daily Post that the event was going extremely well, as the largest group (13-16 years of age) out of 40 contestants began gracing the stage.

“We have a great crowd and the weather is beautiful,” she said.

Members of the Wheatley Scouts were serving food at the event, which is presenting by the Wheatley Optimist Club.

Janzen said some highlights of the event included a special performance by on the guest judges, Windsor-based country music recording artist Crystal Gage, thw winners of the 2008 Tomato Idol from Leamington and a performance by the 2008 Wheatley Idol overall winner James Staley.

The CKDP will provide complete results, and hopefully an interview with this years overall winner, once the final results are known.

In the mean time, check below for a slideshow of photos from the event and a video, featuring some of the contestants and Staley performing for the crowd as well.
