The husband and wife duo of Terence Johnson and Chandra Clarke are helping “green-up” their community by making a $1,000 donation to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the Chatham-Kent Greening Initiative Project.
The donation from the Scribendi owners, which will be used to purchase tree stakes, will be taking place Friday, May 22, outside the Lower Thames Conservation Authority Office in Chatham. Chandra and Terry will be presenting the cheque to Randall Van Wagner, the Conservation Authority’s Environmental and Forestry Partnership Coordinator.
Chandra and Terry have taken steps in the past to make Chatham-Kent a more environmentally-friendly community.
In February 2008, the couple’s online proofreading and editing company, www.scribendi.com, donated 10,000 peat pots to the municipality in order to help improve the area’s natural habitats.
The Chatham-Kent Greening Initiative was announced in 2007 in order to help restore Chatham-Kent’s natural environment.
Partners in the project include Stewardship Kent, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.
Many local companies have also helped fund the project via volunteer support and monetary donations. While more than 100 thousand trees have been planted in the area, Clarke and Johnson hope that their most recent contribution will inspire other citizens to continue their support.
